• Black and Veatch has ordered four compression trains with PGT25+G4 drivers for natural gas liquefaction, for Golar LNG’s recently announced Hilli FLNG conversion project;
• Golar LNG Limited has contracted GE to service and support the compression trains for the next 20 years, supporting Golar LNG’s long term ambitions to become a mid-stream player;
• GE’s Reliability Max Predictivity technology, harnessing GE’s Industrial Internet technology embedded in its turbines and compressors, supports predictive analytics, diagnosis and maintenance, delivering extremely high availability to Golar LNG.

GE announced today that it has been chosen by Black & Veatch to deliver refrigeration compression equipment including GE PGT25+G4 DLE gas turbines and GE 2BCL compressors for Golar LNG Limited’s Floating Liquefaction (FLNG) vessel, the Hilli. GE will also provide service for four compression trains, following a service agreement signed with Golar.

The Golar FLNG vessel project involves the conversion of a former LNG carrier, the Hilli, to a floating liquefaction vessel. Keppel Shipyard in Singapore is responsible for the design, detailed engineering and procurement of the marine systems and all of the conversion-related construction services.

GE’s turbomachinery will be controlled by GE’s Mark VIe control system, including integrated antisurge control. GE is also supplying eight anti-surge valves. These valves are designed for centrifugal compressor anti-surge and recirculation loops and ensure precise control over the operating conditions, delivering maximum equipment protection and uptime for the facility.

GE will provide key engineering staff and fabrication facilities to support deployment of its technology in the new vessel. GE’s service and support contract extends to three maintenance cycles totalling twenty years and will deliver a guaranteed availability rate of 98.9% from the equipment. This compares to the industry average of 92.7% and equates to 22 days of extra production per year.

Embedded with GE’s Reliability Max Predictivity solution, which is built on GE’s Industrial Internet technologies, advanced sensors in the LNG trains will support predictive maintenance, remote diagnosis, and ensure greater uptime and optimum performance levels. GE is also providing control and mechanical engineers to support the deployment, which will follow delivery of key LNG train components from early 2016. Delivery to Singapore will take place from GE’s manufacturing sites in Florence and Bari, Italy.

“We are in an age of gas and LNG,” said Hoe Wai Cheong, Executive Vice President and Executive Director of EPC Projects for Black & Veatch,“FLNG projects, alongside the commercialization of unconventional resources in North America, have created a new frontier. Efficiently, reliably and safely tapping into these resources is a key priority for those of us in the industry, and we believe GE to be the ideal partner to support us in this.”

“Customers are looking for solutions that help reduce the total cost of ownership and provide more flexibility. Golar’s approach of using predictive analytics to support extremely high levels of availability, uptime and production will ensure its FLNG project has a competitive advantage. Golar, Black & Veatch and Keppel form a strong combination of industry leadership for this challenging offshore conversion project,” comments Rafael Santana, CEO and President Turbomachinery Solutions, GE Oil & Gas. “GE Oil & Gas technology is supporting every FLNG facility being built or in operation today, the world over. We’re thrilled to be involved with the project and look forward to supporting it in the coming decades”.
