The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom and the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary on personnel training in the field of nuclear energy took place during the working visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Hungary.

The memorandum was signed by Sergei Kirienko, Chief Executive Officer of the State Corporation Rosatom and Zoltan Balog, Hungarian Minister of Human Capacities.

According to the document, the parties expressed their willingness to expand their cooperation in education and training, educational and scientific activities, as well as in joint training programs in the field of nuclear industry and related areas. The memorandum facilitates the organization of exchange programs involving undergraduate, graduate, double degree and doctorate students and academicians aimed at obtaining specialization to provide the nuclear community with highly qualified personnel.

After the signing of the memorandum Zoltan Balog, the Minister of Human Capacities of Hungary, said: "This memorandum not only creates the legal framework for strengthening our long-standing cooperation in the academic and scientific fields, but it also allows continuing its good traditions. For many decades, our countries have jointly developed peaceful nuclear technologies. Many Hungarian nuclear engineers received their degree in Russia, and we know that the reliable operation of the four units of the Paks NPP can be attributed to their high qualification, too. Now it is necessary to prepare a new generation of professionals who will participate in the design, construction, and operation of the new units."

CEO of the State Corporation Rosatom Sergei Kirienko said: "Bilateral cooperation in the field of education and science opens up broad prospects. Rosatom offers its partners integrated solutions that, in addition to financing also include training of personnel. We always had close ties with the Paks NPP and the Hungarian scientific institutions. The memorandum provides now an opportunity to expand and intensify our cooperation."

The basis of the document was the Agreement on the Cooperation in the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy of 14 January 2014 concluded between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Hungary. The Intergovernmental Agreement prescribes providing training and skills development to the extent required by the Hungarian side. The Parties are ready to coordinate the activities exercised between the Hungarian and Russian entities, such as enterprises, organizations, universities, institutes and other educational institutions.
