Atlanta, GA, United States, 2014/07/01 - The GSCPA is excited to announce that Terry Parker has been elected to serve as the 2014-2015 chair of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. This is an effective step in the transitioning of the State Board of Accountancy.
Terry Parker, CPA, has been elected to serve as the 2014-2015 chair of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA). In this role, Parker leads a membership of almost 14,000 CPAs across the state of Georgia.
Parker will focus on leveraging technology to improve professional learning experiences, promoting GSCPA’s tradition of member involvement, and ensuring the successful transfer of the Georgia State Board of Accountancy from the Office of the Secretary of State to the State Accounting Office.
"The transition of the State Board of Accountancy is an important, upcoming change for CPAs in the state of Georgia,” Parker said. “This move will provide greater independence and operational effectiveness for our State Board.”
Parker, a partner at Clifton, Lipford, Hardison & Parker LLC in Macon, has been a member of GSCPA since 1989. An active member of the Society, Parker has served on GSCPA’s Board of Directors, the board of GSCPA’s Middle Georgia Chapter, The Educational Foundation and a number of committees. In addition to his service to GSCPA, Parker is also a trustee for the Georgia Federal Tax Conference and a member of the Florida Institute of CPAs.
Throughout his career, Parker has worked in public accounting both on the national and local level. He specializes in taxation, which includes the areas of corporate, partnership and individual taxation, as well as taxes related to nonprofits, trusts, gifts, estates and retirement plans. He has also represented individuals and businesses before the Internal Revenue Service, the Georgia Department of Revenue and the Florida Department of Revenue. He holds CPA licenses in both GA and FL.
Parker is a native of Statesboro, and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and his master’s degree in taxation from the University of Georgia.
