Bangkok, Thailand, 09/06/2005 – O2 announced today that their revenue is expected to triple in Thailand this year. This follows encouraging market response to their range of Smartphones and PDA-phones currently available in Thailand, including the Xda IIs, Xda II mini, Xda IIi, Xphone II and Xphone IIm, as well as sales forecast for their upcoming devices to be launched later this year.
Commenting on O2’s performance in Thailand, Mr. Chia Eng Keat, VP Sales and distribution for O2 Asia, said: “Thailand is now one of O2’s leading markets in Asia Pacific. We have had a strong performance for the first half of the year, driven by a combination of exceptional customer growth and increased levels of usage across both voice and data services. We are particularly pleased that our customer base continues to increase, and we are expected to achieve triple growth in revenue. We are encouraged by our performance and want to build on this success.”
O2 recently expanded its distribution network upcountry to cities like Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket, Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen, and will continue to grow its business and cope with increased demand by adding another distributor in Thailand.
“The reason for expanding upcountry is that we want to be closer to our customers and offer them the same new innovative products that Bangkok consumers have been enjoying,” said Chia.
Starting this month, O2 is also deploying additional resources across the country to enhance customer experience. Besides opening a new dedicated customer care center at the IT Mall in Bangkok, where customers can have direct after-sales service and support, O2 will also deploy additional retail and customer service staff over the next few months to reduce the customer-to-service-staff ratio. The objective is to ensure faster turnaround time and give customers the personal attention they deserve.
“O2’s family of innovative products and customer experience are cherished by the Thai people. We design our devices based on the latest trends, technology and customer needs. We give customers what they want, and then make sure we complement those products with the best after-sales service possible,” said Chia.
Reaching out to more customer segments
Increasingly, Thai females are also turning to O2. The trendy Xda II mini and Xphone IIm are two popular devices that are loved by females because of their tiny form factor and unique design features.
Ms. Natasha Sophonewutiskun, Sales and Marketing Manager of O2 Thailand, said, “As we expand our market share, we expand also our reach to different customer segments. Whereas traditionally our customers comprised mostly male mobile professionals, we now count Thai females, trendsetters and young professionals as our biggest fans as well.”
O2 plans to grow its Thai market by launching three more devices this year. The upcoming products will continue to appeal to different customer segments and offer them the latest in mobile platform and technology, such as the new Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and value-added applications exclusive only to O2 consumers.
