Today SaskTel announced that the first residential customers in Prince Albert can now sign up for infiNET, SaskTel’s new Fibre Optic Network. It is anticipated that all existing SaskTel High Speed Internet and maxTV customers in Prince Albert will be connected by 2015, and others will also have the opportunity to sign-up for infiNET once their residential neighbourhood is converted to fibre.
“It has always been our vision for the people of this great province to have access to the best technology available,” said Minister Responsible for SaskTel, Don McMorris,“SaskTel continues to be the only provider in Saskatchewan to deliver a fibre optic connection directly to the customer’s door which demonstrates their commitment to bringing world class technology to Saskatchewan people.”
“We are excited to invest in emerging technology that will enhance our customers’ communication experiences today, while also setting the groundwork for technology enhancements in the future,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “infiNET will future proof SaskTel’s network by providing the capacity to significantly increase speeds over time without the need to replace the fibre.”
infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) Program, a ten-year $670 million dollar initiative that will upgrade the broadband network and deploy fibre directly to homes in the nine largest urban centers in the province, Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford and Prince Albert.
Once connected, infiNET will provide customers access to Saskatchewan’s fastest network, allowing for download speeds of up to 260 Mbps and up to 60 Mbps speeds for uploading, significantly enhancing the customer experience when downloading or streaming video, uploading photos and videos, or participating in real-time gaming. maxTVTM customers can have up to seven High Definition set-top boxes in one residence, providing new and enhanced possibilities for home entertainment.
