Secunia, a leading provider of IT security solutions that enable businesses and private individuals to manage and control vulnerability threats, today announced that Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) has selected it and Now Micro to enhance the IT security of all its universities and colleges. Under the agreement, MNSCU campuses will have access to award-winning automated patch management software from Secunia and installation, configuration, and support services from Now Micro.
Thirty-eight Minnesota colleges and universities will have access to Secunia Corporate Software Inspector (CSI) patch management software which integrates easily with Microsoft WSUS and Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr). Its authenticated vulnerability and patch scanner identifies installed programs and missing security patches, thereby making patching easy for campus IT departments.
"We look forward to working closely with MNSCU to further secure its IT infrastructure," said Neil Butchart, Vice President of North America for Secunia. "CSI software offers an integrated and automated approach to handling vulnerabilities that will boost MNSCU’s internet, network, and endpoint security."
MNSCU selected Secunia because of its breadth of application coverage and ease of integration into MNSCU’s existing deployment tools. At the same time, Now Micro’s extensive experience in the public sector makes it an ideal partner for implementation and support. With this cost-effective solution, all of the Minnesota state colleges and universities now have the opportunity to migrate to a single security platform which will enhance the security of the entire university system.
Now Micro has years of experience providing colleges, universities, school districts, and trade schools unique IT solutions, services, and products. Now Micro’s certified technical experts will work closely with each college and university to meet their unique deployment requirements.
"It’s critical for MNSCU campuses to correctly configure CSI with ConfigMgr and other existing applications," said Nash Pherson, Senior Systems Consultant, Now Micro. "Our System Center experts will ensure that IT infrastructure and clients are ready to deploy Windows and third-party updates. We’ve already been working with several Minnesota colleges and universities and have a team of certified experts available to support the needs of MNSCU campuses throughout the state."
About cybercrime threatening educational institutions
Secunia Paper: Educational institutions are treasure chests for cybercriminals
Cybercrime is a major threat to schools, colleges, universities and learning centers due to the sheer volume of confidential information that is shared on a daily basis. Students, researchers and faculty staff are prime targets for cybercriminals, who exploit vulnerabilities in software and use them as entry points into systems and IT infrastructures.
Balancing security and productivity in school districts with thousands of students and desktops, laptops and smart devices fragmented over various locations, is a major, complex task. This paper therefore outlines the challenges to address and the best practice line of defense against vulnerabilities.
