ADVA Optical Networking today announced that DB Systel GmbH has selected the ADVA FSP 3000 to support metro and long distance network applications. The frame agreement with system integrator AXIANS is based upon ADVA Optical Networking technology for connectivity solutions of multiple 10 Gigabit per second (10Gbit/s). This connectivity enables DB Systel GmbH to flexibly meet bandwidth requirements in its network.
“We are now able to address the increasing demand for bandwidth arising from different applications and departments of the DB Group, as well as internal office communications in the most flexible, cost-effective and future-proof way with service provider based solutions as well as our own optical network implementation,” said Brigitte Baumgartner, head of Access and Carrier Services, DB Systel GmbH. “The ADVA FSP 3000 offers the modularity, ease of use and reliability we need in a platform to support our varied connectivity needs. What’s more, AXIANS and ADVA Optical Networking (advaoptical.com) have established themselves as leading players in the marketplace.”
DB Group offers mobility and logistical services and employs over 300,000 people in more than 130 countries worldwide. Its core business is German railway transport, which carries more than 5 million customers every day. Furthermore, DB Group has become a global provider of mobility and logistics services. DB Systel GmbH is DB Group’s internal ICT provider, operating the Group’s complete IP network infrastructure. Applications supported by DB Systel GmbH include data center services, connection of ticketing machines, online bookings, sales and passenger information systems, schedule control, video surveillance and internal office communications.
“As the universal provider for all of DB Group’s vast, current and emerging IT and communication needs, DB Systel GmbH requires multi-service support and future-proofing scalability,” commented Volker Lempert, director market development carrier, ADVA Optical Networking. “The ADVA FSP 3000 provides DB Systel GmbH just such a combination of networking power and flexibility to support whatever high-speed data, storage and video applications and traffic protocols that the DB Group might throw at it.”
“DB Systel GmbH was looking for a solution they could rely on,” said Salvatore Sutera, project manager, AXIANS. “We have proven international expertise in the fields of design, implementation and operation of international PAN-European network infrastructures. We also have a trusted relationship with ADVA Optical Networking. This combination provides DB Systel GmbH with a resilient and flexible solution that meets their networking needs now and in the future.”
