Company to showcase comprehensive, Ethernet AVB System comprised of Symphony Teleca’s Ethernet AVB End-point Stack and Broadcom® BroadR-Reach® technology at the 3rd Annual Ethernet and IP at Automotive Technology Day
The 3rd Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day, Broadcom Stand - Symphony Teleca Corporation (STC), a global innovation and development services company, today announced a joint collaboration with Broadcom to deliver a multi-node Ethernet AVB system based on Symphony Teleca's Ethernet AVB End-point Stack and Broadcom BroadR-Reach Ethernet switch technology. The companies will showcase their combined interoperability with a technology demonstration at the 3rd Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day conference and exhibition at Filderhalle Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany, September 25 - 26, 2013. This announcement further underscores Symphony Teleca's commitment to innovation and leadership in the automotive market.
The combination of these company's solutions provides automotive OEMs and Tier 1s with a fast and low risk track to Ethernet AVB solutions, while tackling the challenging requirement for higher performance and scalability, dramatically reducing connectivity costs.
With increasing multimedia requirements for in-vehicle-infotainment, Ethernet AVB provides higher bandwidth and more stable network management capabilities compared to Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and Controller Area Network (CAN) standards. With a time-synchronized network for audio, video and control data on a single cable, it delivers a highly reliable, low latency and low cost in-vehicle network with guaranteed quality of service (QoS). Through simple lightweight cabling, plug-and-play capabilities, scalable and versatile topology support like star, bus and tree, it is the ideal standard for future proof in-vehicle networks. Ethernet AVB also supports gateways for heterogeneous networks like CAN, LIN or Flexray for compliance with other standards.
"Ethernet AVB is becoming a key feature for future automotive connectivity," said Dean Miles, Senior Vice President, Automotive, Symphony Teleca. "We are pleased to collaborate with Broadcom to provide a seamless option to customers looking to adopt a proven, high-performance Ethernet AVB Solution for next-generation vehicles."
Key highlights of the Symphony Teleca Ethernet AVB solution comprise:
• An Ethernet AVB endpoint stack designed for compliance with the developing automotive specification in AVnu;
• Endpoint implementation for IEEE802.1AS, 802.1Qav, 802.1Qat, IEEE1722 and the latest IEEE 1722a draft;
• Adaptable for major silicon vendors and OS platforms;
• Multimedia and network management middleware development and application;
• Application development for multimedia and network management.
Symphony Teleca is showcasing its Ethernet AVB Stack running on three Texas Instruments Jacinto 5 reference platforms, networked through two Broadcom Polar switches at the 3rd Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day conference and exhibition at Filderhalle Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany, September 25 - 26, 2013. All systems are interconnected with Broad-R-Reach single twisted pair Ethernet cabling. The system demonstrates the use of Ethernet AVB to transport three types of media important to automotive applications:
• Streaming of entertainment video using the MPEG-2 TS AVB mapping;
• A live camera feed using the Motion JPEG AVB mapping; and
• Live audio, using the new AVTP Audio mapping (aka Simple Audio Format) defined in the IEEE 1722a draft standard.
Broadcom's BroadR-Reach automotive-qualified Ethernet solutions allow multiple in-vehicle systems to simultaneously access information over a single unshielded twisted pair cable at speeds of up to 100 Mbps. By eliminating cumbersome, shielded cabling, automotive manufacturers can reduce connectivity costs up to 80 percent and cabling weight up to 30 percent.
"The automotive industry has enthusiastically embraced Ethernet as the technology of choice in enabling the next-generation connected car," said Dr. Ali Abaye, Senior Director of Automotive at Broadcom. "We are pleased to collaborate with Symphony Teleca in enabling faster time-to-market and lower cost Ethernet AVB solution."
The Symphony Teleca Ethernet AVB Solution is now available.
