Energetics Incorporated facilitated the annual meeting of the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership’s (GSEP’s) Energy Management Working Group (EMWG) in Cape Town, South Africa, where six countries came together to prioritize energy management initiatives for the EMWG.
The EMWG provides an opportunity for participating countries to voluntarily share approaches and resources in order to enhance national programs and accelerate energy management in industrial facilities and commercial buildings globally. The EMWG Steering Committee will consider the meeting’s recommendations when finalizing its work plan for the next two years.
Energetics (energetics.com) aided in designing, organizing, and facilitating the meeting, which focused on gaining insights from approximately 36 participants representing Australia, Canada, Japan, the Republic of South Korea, South Africa, and the United States. Representatives of strategic partners from several international energy efficiency organizations and local South African agencies also participated. Opening remarks for the meeting were given by the Honorable Deputy Minister Barbara Thompson of the South African Department of Energy, and Erica Barks-Ruggles the Counsel General for the U.S. Embassy in Cape Town.
The meeting was the product of a three-month strategic planning process coordinated by Energetics. Throughout the process, Energetics gathered input and guidance from the lead representatives of the EMWG member countries and task forces regarding future directions and proposed activities.
During the meeting, EMWG members proposed a variety of potential activities to pursue over the next two years. With the help of Energetics’ facilitation, meeting participants selected the eight activities that have the highest potential to accelerate energy management implementation. The selected activities collectively advance the development of technical resources, EMWG’s partnership and outreach strategy, mechanisms to track EMWG progress, and the quality of energy management system data and verification. Moving forward, the EMWG will broaden outreach efforts to engage new partners to create and disseminate resources that promote successful implementation.
GSEP is an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial, a voluntary forum focused on promoting policy and programs that advance clean energy around the world.
