Kansas City, MO, United States, 2012/12/17 - Peoria based Central Illinois Endoscopy Center (CIEC) recently announced that Humana health plan members now have in-network access to their outpatient endoscopy services effective December 1st - Ciendoscopy.com / Humana.com.
The addition of Humana to the already comprehensive list of health plans accepted by CIEC illustrates their ongoing effort to provide access to the highest quality endoscopy care for Central Illinois residents.
As downstate Illinois largest freestanding dedicated endoscopy center, CIEC is committed to reducing the rate of colon cancer in Illinois. With an average monthly patient satisfaction rating of 95% by Press Ganey, CIEC is making an impact on hundreds of lives each month. They are consistently ranked high for providing quality colonoscopies to their patients and were the only endoscopy center in the US selected for the coveted “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” award. Yet, they want to do more. CIEC recently brought the Undy 5000 5K run/walk for colon cancer to Peoria for the first time ever. They also set a lofty goal to screen 5000 people for colon cancer by the end of 2012. In order to achieve this, they must be vigilant in doing the best job possible when performing a screening colonoscopy. This includes opening their doors to accept members of more health plans.
“We know that in order to make a difference in the lives of our community, we need to provide the best endoscopy services around,” said Karen Smith, Interim Executive Director at CIEC. “We do this at a lower cost than area hospitals, which is an added benefit for patients.
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Colonoscopy procedures are used by the vast majority of clinicians as the primary tool to screen for colon cancer, due to the fact that routine colonoscopy screenings can prevent 90% of colon cancer deaths. A reduction in colon cancer is directly linked to patient education. Early detection of any malignancy leads to a cure. Approximately 5 years ago, a survey was conducted disclosing approximately 30% of the population, ages 50 and over, were screened in Central Illinois.
“We want everyone to get involved in the screening process,” said Eli Kuga, MD Gastroenterologist at CIEC. “By opening our doors to more health plans, we can screen more people and colon cancer rates in Illinois will drop. That is how we make a difference,” added Kuga.
