Avigilon, a leader in high-definition (HD) and megapixel video surveillance solutions, today announced that Telford College of Arts and Technology in Telford, Shropshire, United Kingdom, has deployed the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system to ensure the safety and protection of its college community. Chosen for its superior image quality, advanced management features, and reliability, the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system enables the college to leverage its existing infrastructure and transition to high-definition surveillance as budget permits.
Like all educational facilities across the UK, Telford College is regulated by the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (OFSTED), which is mandated to ensure the highest standards in care and education for children, young people, and students. A key OFSTED benchmark is a college’s ability to effectively safeguard its students. “We received an outstanding grade in safeguarding at our last inspection, which we are very motivated to maintain,” explained Andy Wilkinson, estates manager at Telford College. “The Avigilon high-definition surveillance system delivers the image quality, ease-of-use, and reliability we need.”
Telford College of Arts and Technology manages the Avigilon high-definition surveillance solution using the Avigilon Control Center network video management software (NVMS) with High-Definition Stream Management™ (HDSM) technology. The college installed Avigilon HD cameras ranging from 2 MP to 8 MP in key areas across the campus including student social areas, the cafeteria, library, football pitches, the delivery entrance, and the recently opened Construction Centre. Telford College also installed an Avigilon 8 MP 360˚ panoramic dome camera in its college shop to achieve maximum coverage with just one camera. Several Avigilon analog video encoders help Telford College improve the performance of its existing analog cameras which will be replaced with Avigilon high-definition cameras. The college also installed an Avigilon Network Video Recorder (NVR) to store up to 14 days of continuous surveillance footage.
Avigilon Control Center software enables Telford College to cluster groups of views and pull them up in seconds for full coverage, zoom into crowded areas for greater detail, and cover wider areas with fewer cameras to improve investigation success. Requiring less time to use, the security team has increased their productivity and can be redeployed to other tasks. Telford College can monitor potential issues live and dispatch additional personnel to assist as needed. The college has achieved a significant return on investment (ROI) because the Avigilon surveillance system requires less infrastructure and less time and support to install. It also delivers superior image quality and manageability that acts as a deterrent and protects the college community.
“As an open campus, Telford College of Arts and Technology depends on its surveillance system to help maintain a positive, safe, and secure learning environment for its college community,” said Keith Marett, vice president of marketing and communications at Avigilon. “The Avigilon high-definition surveillance system delivers the image quality, search functionality, and reliability the college needs to resolve incidents quickly and effectively, preventing disruptive behavior and creating the kind of campus atmosphere students and parents want.”
