Korenix has recently installed its complete networking and computing solution in a Tire Factory in China aiming to offer a highly efficient data transfer at lower costs. Users greatly benefitted from the supported Modbus functionality in the JetBox 5300 computers and JetNet 4508f and 5628G switches to easily integrate the field site production control system with data acquisition systems, and reliably communicate data from factory floors to the Manufacture Data Control center without using additional Modbus converters, and thus decreasing production data change error rate and increasing production quality. Chosen for their capability of offering high fiber port connection through their modular slots, the JetNet 5628G rackmount switches reliably extended data from widely distributed factory floors. With their ruggedized heavy industry rated design, conformal coating and up to -40~85oC operating temperature ranges the switches ensured stable and high-performance operation of the overall factory automation system in China.
Tire Factory Automation in ChinaDue to the rapid technical advancement in the field of electronics, the increasing complexity of manufacturing processes, the need for tighter process control as well as the cost-efficiency, a higher level of factory automation is becoming more prevalent today.
To keep its competitive advantages in the market, a Tire Factory in China has also worked on improving its factory automation system by integrating HMI, SCADA and other data acquisition systems, which normally require Modbus Gateways for data communication at different subsystems and stations of the factory. The biggest challenge though for the system integrator has been finding devices with conformal coating that will be able to resist the environmental conditions, such as high moisture, corrosion of sulfide, wide voltage and temperature ranges.
Korenix has won the project by offering a complete solution that ensures effective operation of tire factory’s assets.
Using their multiple interfaces (LAN, DIO, serial ports), the JetBox 5300 compact computers were installed in small spaces in factory fields to collect data from various networking equipment, PLCs, signal and digital controlling devices, saving physical media costs. Working as Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP gateways, they efficiently communicated data from the stations to the upper level.
The JetNet 4508f-s switches have been chosen for their fiber ports, which allowed communicating and extending data between different facility subsystems (TBM Process, Steam control station, Power station…..) that are located in wide areas. Due to their conformal coating design users were able to prevent moisture and corrosion in the factories, while the wide operating temperature ranges made the switches suitable to resist the extreme temperature ranges available in factory floors.

In the control rooms, JetNet 5628G modular switches have been used as a base of a data acquisition system from different factory facility subsystems. The modular design enabled users to add up to 18 Fiber interfaces in a single rackmount switch to connect with JetNet 4508f switches, whereas the Modbus TCP/IP helped them to integrate easily in the SCADA and HMI systems.
Administrators at control rooms were further able to efficiently and cost-effectively manage networks in different production lines and in the central office using the Modbus TCP of the switches, and through Korenix’ network management system, the JetView Pro visualize network topology of the whole system and efficiently maintain it.
