Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, 2012/09/28 - SaskTel is pleased to announce that the provincial government request to the federal government to grant an extension of the spectrum required to operate its Wireless Broadband Internet service to March 2014 has been granted - SaskTel.com.
“We are extremely pleased to receive an extension on the spectrum license from the federal government,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “I would like to assure our WBBI customers that we are committed to providing them with comparable or better services to what they presently have and we will continue to analyze viable service options as we transition customers to new technologies.”
SaskTel has a strong commitment to rural Saskatchewan. Since 2010, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) High Speed Internet has been expanded to 85 communities bringing the total of communities served to 339. Two years ago, 4G was deployed with mobile plans to provide another internet service option for customers. A new satellite became operational in January 2012 and through SaskTel’s partner Xplornet new high speed internet offerings became available for rural residents effective June 2012.
In addition, SaskTel has committed over $418 million to network improvements throughout Saskatchewan over the past two years and SaskTel remains the only major provider that continues to improve coverage and service options in rural Saskatchewan. SaskTel has also recently signed a new agreement with one of its vendors to trial a new fixed wireless LTE product and it is hoped this will provide another high speed internet option for rural customers in the future.
“We will ensure that no one is left without service and all customers will receive notification of their service options throughout the extension period,” added Styles.
