Driving digital entertainment innovation, Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) and Belkin, creator of people-inspired consumer technology products, today announced that Belkin has launched @TV, a media streaming box that enables users to access content from their home theater on their personal and mobile devices, with Rovi Video. Using the @TV application, consumers can navigate through a guide powered by Rovi Video – a comprehensive collection of metadata on TV, movies and celebrities – and find the content they want to watch, connect and watch it immediately, or record it remotely.
In addition to the TV program and schedule information, Belkin’s @TV media streaming box provides an enhanced user experience with high quality images, biographies, reviews, descriptors, and award information based on Rovi Video. The product also uses Hot Pick Lists curated by the Rovi editorial team to recommend content to its users. Rovi Video is used on hundreds of millions of TVs and STBs today.
"We want to give our customers the complete TV experience with @TV. This starts with the ability to discover content on an integrated channel guide," said Jamie Elgie, senior director of product management at Belkin. “We’ve extended this experience to include advanced, eye-catching imagery and information to reflect the highly visual and engaging environment of today’s media world.”
“Belkin’s @TV media streaming box gives consumers what they really want: access to content on multiple devices,” said Simon Adams, SVP of sales and marketing for consumer electronics at Rovi. “Rovi Video is an integral part of connecting people to entertainment on devices like @TV. We’re collaborating with our customers to deliver a richer, more fulfilling entertainment experience to their consumers.”
@TV, supporting Wi-Fi® or 3G/4G network, works with both standard and high-definition programming and can connect and control multiple sources, such as a digital cable box, satellite receiver, or DVD player. The easy-to-use channel guide makes it simple to control live or recorded content directly from a mobile device.
Rovi Video is a component of Rovi Entertainment Data Solutions, a massive database that also includes metadata on music, books and games. The broad base of entertainment data ranges from basic biographies and reviews to high quality images, cross linking data, celebrity Twitter handles and links to web video. Rovi has been the source of entertainment data for more than 50 years and powers a wide range of leading consumer devices, pay-TV services, and popular video and music apps.
