Los Angeles, CA, United States, 2012/08/22 - AVI-SPL, the leading provider of audio video communications solutions, has been awarded two Pro AV Spotlight Awards - AVISPL.com.
Presented by Sound & Video Contractor and InfoComm International, AVI-SPL was honored with Best Education AV Installation for the Rialto School District and Best Government AV Installation for the Minneapolis Emergency Operations Training Facility.
Jennifer Brown and JD Jones from AVI-SPL’s Los Angeles office worked with Rialto School District to improve communication between the school district, students and parents, and build more awareness of educational initiatives and quickly address emergency situations with immediate notifications. Rialto now has Cisco Digital Signs in 72 classrooms and the district office. The school also implemented a Cisco T3 TelePresence room so students can take virtual field trips. So far, Rialto Middle School has used their telepresence system to connect with the Confucius Institute in San Diego and two Los Angeles schools to study Chinese culture. Students have also participated in multiple NASA engagements with their telepresence system.
“With the integration of this technology, retention and collaboration has increased because the students are able to learn in a medium that they interface with by choice all day long,” said Rialto School Board Trustee Joseph Martinez.
The Minneapolis Emergency Operations Training Facility (EOTF) project was led by AVI-SPL’s Vice President of Sales Fred Primoli and Project Design Engineer Gerry Pehl from the St. Paul, Minn., office. To improve the city’s emergency preparedness, the City of Minneapolis invested in the latest innovative technology in order to enhance communication between the fire department, police department, the city’s Emergency Management Division and other regional, national and international partners. AVI-SPL integrated video conferencing, projection wall technology for increased surveillance, and digital system control and management at the Minneapolis EOTF. Departments are now receiving timely and accurate information in order to enhance the safety for the city.
“The primary challenge was creating an advanced communications facility that may get activated no more than once in a decade,” said Primoli. “We needed systems that were capable of totally robust operation 24 hours per day, seven days per week – but which also were capable of performing at their best after extended periods of inactivity.”
