Valcourt, Québec, Canada, 2012/06/28 - Various teams, composed of mechanical, electrical and metallurgical engineering students, will attempt to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise to members of BRP's product development team - BRP.com. TSX: DOO
Various teams, composed of mechanical, electrical and metallurgical engineering students, will attempt to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise to members of BRP's product development team by presenting the all-terrain vehicles (ATV) they have created.
The Baja SAE competition is a series of three regional meetings that simulate real engineering projects that a work team could face during the design of a product. Students must envision and assemble an ATV that can cope with rough terrain and water obstacles. Unlike the bigger Baja SAE competition, BRP will not require its guests to race but rather to demonstrate the characteristics of their vehicles, plus resolve a technical issue through the use of a BRP product.
Many of Eastern Canada's great engineering schools will be represented since students from Queen's, ETS (UQAM), Laval, Sherbrooke, Polytechnique (Université de Montréal), Concordia and McGill universities will be attending.
For BRP, this event is a great opportunity to present the company to future engineers and demonstrate the everyday challenges an engineer here can face. "It's very stimulating for us to see these passionate young people at work. They are, after all, tomorrow's engineers and we are very pleased to meet them, to have them visit our facilities and maybe even make them dream about the experiences and projects the labour force has in store for them in a few years," saidVincent Morin, vice-president, Can-Am product development.
Each team will be evaluated according to a series of criteria and the three teams who come out on top will receive a prize of up to $4,000 in BRP sponsorships (parts). The team who proposes the best solution for the technical issue will receive a special prize.
Media representatives who would like to meet the students from the Baja SAE teams can RSVP Marie-Élaine Dion and join them at the Research Centre, 841 Cartier Street in Valcourt as of 10:30 am. The competition will take place from 10:30 am. to 3:30 pm.
