When Konica Minolta first invited TharpeRobbins, a global leader in the managed employee reward and recognition industry, to participate in a test program, TharpeRobbins had no idea how much it would impact the company‘s printing program. The expanded program solutions, client service acceleration, cost containment, and sustainability now provide key support for TharpeRobbins’s core initiatives for operational excellence.
“I am amazed at how far we’ve come since the original test with eight to ten Konica Minolta engineers and designers. The Konica Minolta team worked alongside our team as we learned to use the machines,” says Todd Bolin, digital print manager for TharpeRobbins. “Learning how to make minor repairs and replacements has greatly increased our uptime. Previously, a printer may have been out of production for several days awaiting a service technician or replacement parts.”
After the initial training, Konica Minolta established an inventory of parts that TharpeRobbins used frequently. This empowers TharpeRobbins to make small repairs and the ready parts inventory reduces the time required by the Konica Minolta service technician once an issue is identified. TharpeRobbins no longer must wait 24 hours for parts to be delivered and then schedule a return service trip the next day, which saves time and money for Konica Minolta as well.
“Our productivity has tripled in the last six months due to machine reliability and outstanding support from Konica Minolta,” says Bolin. “It has been a great strategic partnership and we are very aggressively working to evaluate work process flow, emerging technologies in the digital printing field, and the latest equipment to support our recognition solutions offerings.”
Before the test phase began, Konica Minolta set up an evaluation process that involved not only TharpeRobbins’ current needs, but a complete assessment of the company’s anticipated needs three, four and five years into the future. Konica Minolta then configured the technology to meet those needs.
“We now have the latest digital printer technology with unparalleled color reproduction and consistency, page precision that supports faster printing, fewer adjustments and overall, a significantly higher machine uptime,” Bolin says. “Because we are printing thousands of brochures, certificates and booklets a day, my high level confidence with the quality of our products allows me to sleep at night.”
“We are proud of the printing facility that TharpeRobbins has created with our equipment and hope to create a showcase within TharpeRobbins for other companies to emulate,” says Brad Windham, Konica Minolta’s Charlotte, N.C. branch general manager. “We were able to help TharpeRobbins bring in-house many of the jobs that had previously been outsourced because of the high level of trust between our two organizations.”
Since TharpeRobbins first launched in-house digital printing two years ago, the company is now quickly approaching the five millionth click on its Konica Minolta equipment. With the support of their partners at Konica Minolta, TharpeRobbins is planning a celebration to recognize this tremendous achievement.
