The 2012 PMI National Conference for Medical Office Professionals is a much-anticipated annual learning event on June 13-15 at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk Hotel. This conference offers advanced training in coding, reimbursement and office management skills for the medical practice. Attendees are comprised primarily of physician staff members – medical office managers, coding and billing professionals from across the U.S. Twenty-four sessions will be offered over the course of three days, presented by 10 practice management experts. The pre-conference on June 13 offers a learning track for office managers as well as for coders seeking training on the new ICD-10-CM coding system that begins in 2014. June 14 and 15 is the main conference with 22 sessions presented over the two-day period. Continuing education units are provided and exhibitors will sponsor door prizes and networking functions.
“We are excited about this panel of experts and about this conference overall,” said Douglas O’Dell, President and CEO of PMI. “Attendees will take home answers to protect providers and employees from potential hazards, civil/criminal penalties and future liability issues which in turn help physicians keep more of their hard-earned dollars.”
Fontenot brings clarity to health law by combining her education and experience as a lawyer and a nurse into an engaging, powerful and sought after educator. Since 1997, she has been an Adjunct Professor teaching health law to graduate students in the department of Healthcare Administration at Trinity University, where she has been elected "Most Outstanding Professor" by Trinity Executive MHA students. Prior academic positions include teaching hospital law and public health law in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale School of Medicine, and conducting the health law component of the Certificate in Business Administration for Physicians program jointly sponsored by Auburn University and the Southern Medical Society. For nine years, she served as a guest faculty member at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and most recently she served as guest faculty for Grand Rounds at Baylor Medical School and the University of Texas at Medical School (Houston), Departments of Ophthalmology.
Registration for the conference is still open and discounted accommodations are available through May 13 to participants staying at the host hotel. The Crowne Plaza Riverwalk Hotel was selected because of its close proximity to the River Walk and other downtown attractions.
