Birmingham, AL, United States, 2012/03/28 - Founded in August 2011, Birmingham-based Hospicelink now helps hospices care for thousands of patients. Here’s how a 29-year-old entrepreneur broke into the national scene with a software-based solution.
Hospicelink today announced that the company was recently awarded the PointClear Healthcare Innovation Technology Award at the 12th annual HIMSS Conference in Las Vegas. The 7-month-old company, which expects approximately $50 million in sales by the end of 2012, was among several elite healthcare companies including Walgreens; Take Care Health, a subsidiary of Walgreens; and SeeMyRadiology, a 13-year-old company that works with over 600 facilities and 2,500 physicians.
Hospicelink was founded in August by Chad Trull of Birmingham to create a hospice cost-management solution.
“It was an honor to be recognized at such an early stage of the company’s existence,” said Mr. Trull, Hospicelink president. “An award for innovation is a true distinction in a field like this, especially given the growth of the healthcare technology industry.”
“All indications are that the number of hospices and patients under care will triple in the next 10 - 15 years, and hospice will become more and more a fact of life for families throughout the United States,” Mr. Trull noted.
However, the need for innovation in this business is taking on nationwide, he said. “All of our clients have a priority of putting their patients first, but as the industry grows they have to devote more and more time to business management. We provide the tools that let them take back that time and give it back to their patients.”
Hospicelink streamlines equipment ordering and management, providing hospices with the necessary tools to manage their cost in real time all the while building relationships with local and national providers of their choosing.
“I’ve been in hospice for 20 years and practicing medicine for 30 years,” says Dr. Melvin Oakely, a family doctor in Eufaula, Alabama,“All I’ve seen is layer upon layer of paperwork and responsibility. I am delighted that we finally have a product that, instead of adding to those layers, removes those layers.”
