This meeting represents a unique opportunity for electrical professionals in the area to receive CEUs needed for Inspection and Contracting licenses, also satisfying many other requirements for electrical safety and NEC education. Professional Engineers, Testing Laboratory Inspectors, manufacturing specialists, home inspectors and electrical students can also benefit from this highly recognized electrical education event. The NEC classes are conducted with renowned experts from many fields, and there are opportunities to speak directly to these experts.

Ron Chilton holds the position of Chief Electrical Engineer/Chief State Electrical Inspector and is the Chief Electrical Code Consultant for the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal. Talking about the history of the Institute, Ron says. “The 2012 North Carolina Electrical Institute will be the 83rd Institute, missing consecutive years only during World War II. It has consistently been the best attended event for the Electrical Industry in the State of North Carolina, as well as the United States, this past year having a record 820 registered attendees. Our North Carolina Electrical Institute is recognized around the Country as the best venue for discussion of the National Electrical Code in the US, generally due to the many different areas of the Industry represented there, and the dedication to the event by that Industry. The recognition supported by associations such as the National Fire Protection Association, the National Electrical Manufacturer's Association, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, several Electrical Contractors Associations, and Third Party Agencies such as Underwriters Laboratories and MET Labs, as well as other local and State Trade Associations, validate that level of respect for this meeting”.

One important feature of the Institute are the exhibitors who display new products and innovative equipment, and also publications with helpful information. At this electrical educational Seminar attendees get a chance to see the latest electrical devices and hear about new services in the electrical industry. Also, there will be several Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories, including Intertek, MET Laboratories, TUV Rheinland and Underwriters Laboratories. Speaking about what makes the NC Electrical Institute unique, Ron Chilton says “The Annual gathering of the North Carolina Electrical Institute provides a near complete roundhouse discussion avenue for the attendees with one-on-one convenience for all to experience the exposure of National Electrical Code experts from around the Country, and share new and old products discussions with over 19 representatives from the Electrical Manufacturers Groups as well as Inspection Associates.

Institute attendees can meet face to face with knowledgeable industry representatives and get to ask questions about use, installation, issues with new technologies and relationship to changes in the National Electrical Code. This differs greatly from the usual way of getting this information through advertisements, catalogues and websites. First time attendees are always greatly impressed with this feature of the NC Electrical Institute. “While attending the NC Electrical Institute one can ask the question and discuss the answer first hand with recognized National Electrical Code experts from all over the US, and sometimes Canada. This informal opportunity presents those attending a casual atmosphere for education and discussion for interaction of all participants, very much accommodating to the majority of those attending since most are either Electrical Contractors or Inspectors who might work together on a daily basis for safe and hazard free electrical installations”, says Chilton.
