Canton, OH, United States, 2012/01/30 - Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) congratulates James Augustine, MD, FACEP, upon being named a Senior Reviewer for the Annals of Emergency Medicine - EMP.com.
Each year the publication compiles a list of top reviewers who are selected based upon a formula that ranks them for their total performance regarding timeliness, review quality and volume of reviews performed.
“It is an honor to be recognized as a reviewer for the Annals for the past 15 years or so,” said Dr. Augustine. “As you review others’ articles, it gives you great insight to improving your own writing.”
Dr. Augustine has published more than 150 articles, chapters, and columns in the emergency medicine literature. “We all need to find a way to ‘pay it forward’ in our science and our specialty,” he said. “Each emergency physician at EMP should find their opportunity to support the science behind our work and the educational opportunities we share.”
What was the most interesting manuscript Dr. Augustine has had to review? “There are some very innovative manuscripts that have been submitted, some with much less science than others. Beyond the manuscripts that proposed to do a double blind randomized trial of jumping out of an airplane without a parachute, I was amazed that someone did a study and submitted the results comparing different brands of ‘trauma scissors’.”
In addition to his writing, Dr. Augustine, MD, FACEP serves as Director of Clinical Operations at EMP and works with EMP’s partner hospital locations as well as other hospital organizations across the country to help improve Emergency Departments’ design, throughput and overall efficiency.
A Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Augustine has been a member of national groups and organizations overseeing Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Service Quality Improvement, Benchmarking and Best Practices, and Disaster Preparation for the last 18 years.
Dr. Augustine holds a Bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, graduating cum laude, and a Doctor of Medicine from Wright State University School of Medicine. He performed an integrated residency in emergency medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine. He continues to serve as Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Wright State University.
