Aylesbury – Oxford City Council and Tendring District Council have selected ESRI (UK) to replace their legacy geographic information systems (GIS). In a deal worth £100,000, Oxford will make ESRI its corporate GIS, rolling the solution out to all employees across the council. Tendring will be implementing ESRI software initially in the Planning department. The new software will enable close integration with both councils’ back office systems and provide the ability to manage Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
“The system will enable the Council to update its mapping layers as and when updates are available and integrate other GIS products into its planning system. It will also assist us in establishing a corporate GIS platform and aids integration between corporate systems” says Trevor Sumption, e-Services Projects Manager, Tendring District Council.
Oxford City Council will also be integrating the GIS with its Electronic Document Management System (EDMS). This will enable the council to enhance its website by giving citizens the ability to view documents such as Tree Preservation orders, Planning Enforcements and Liquor Licences.
Additionally, Oxford will be introducing fault/problem reporting. Residents will be able to pinpoint on a map exactly where graffiti, fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles are situated. This information will then be fed directly to mobile wardens on the streets to affect immediate action.
“We selected ESRI (UK) because we wanted to advance our use of GIS and the ESRI solution provided all of the functionality we required - close integration with our CAPS Solutions back office system, the ability to handle OS MasterMap and advanced web products that would allow us to improve our internet and intranet.” Janice Brown, Information Technology Expert, Oxford City Council.
ESRI (UK) is the leading provider of corporate solutions to Councils in the UK, including Gedling Borough Council, Manchester City Council and Norfolk County Council. The company was also recently named as leading GIS software supplier to local government in the 2006 SOCTIM report.
