Apptix, BackupAgent, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Exchange 2010, goMobi, Infratel, LiveOffice, Stopthehacker.com and UNITY Mobile are among newest applications to earn APS certification and packaging
Parallels, the hosting and Cloud services enablement leader, today announced that Parallels Automation partners are achieving a 66 percent yearly growth rate in the number of deployed applications and services among those certified and packaged in the Application Packaging Standard (APS) program. In addition, the applications available in the APS catalogue have exceeded 2 million downloads by hosters, service providers and their customers.
The APS program enables Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and other providers of hosted services to gain access to a vast sales channel by connecting with more than 10,000 Parallels service providers and resellers who serve more than 10 million small and medium businesses (SMBs). In turn, hosters and other cloud service providers have access to the growing variety of APS-enabled applications and services that are easy and ready-to-deploy. Service providers using Parallels Automation and Parallels Plesk Panel can quickly and easily add new, sticky APS packaged services while generating higher average revenue per user (ARPU).
In addition to the explosive, double-digit growth of deployed APS applications, more than 100 applications have been added or updated under the APS certification program in 2011 alone, covering a wide range of Web, messaging and collaboration, infrastructure and other hosted applications. The entire catalogue of packaged and/or updated applications in the APS ecosystem is now approaching 300, with dozens more applications from ISVs expected to receive APC certification and packaging in the coming year.
“APS is the shortest time-to-market, time-to-revenue channel building path for hosted applications and cloud services” said Birger Steen, CEO of Parallels. “Certified and packaged APS applications are win-win for the hoster and ISV alike. Parallels congratulates all of the vendors who have received APS certification for their packages, and we look forward to welcoming even more hosters and service providers who recognize that reselling APS-certified apps delivers tremendous growth value for their businesses.”
APS certified and packaged applications and services have created a valuable new revenue opportunity - for both hosting industry service providers and ISVs - by introducing a "pluggable" approach to distributing hosted applications. Once packaged in the APS format by a software vendor, an application can be easily "plugged" into the infrastructure of any hosting provider that has implemented the standard "socket" for hosting APS applications. Service providers can then offer these packaged APS applications and services to their customers, either in a sell-up package, individually if it is open source commercial, or as a commercial application from a third party vendor.
The new or recently updated applications in the APS catalogue are from across the spectrum of hosted applications and services, including:
• Web: Attracta, goMobi, Pinnaclecart, SiteLock, Soholaunch, Stopthehacker.com, UNITY Mobile;
• Messaging and Collaboration: Apptix, Infratel, LiveOffice, MessageSolution, Microsoft® Exchange 2010, Microsoft® Office 365, MX Sweep, OfficeDrive, Open-Xchange, SmarterMail, SpamExperts, VideoMost, XandMail;
• Infrastructure: BackupAgent, Microsoft® Hyper-V;
• SaaS: Microsoft® Dynamics 2011.
Once an application from an ISV is APS packaged and certified, Parallels is committed to promoting the package via various partner marketing programs, such as:
• Listing applications in the APSStandard.org catalog;
• Use of the APS Certification logo;
• Spotlighting ISVs and their APS-certified packages during Parallels hosting industry webinars;
• Participating in additional marketing opportunities including industry trade shows, events and more.
