NAVTEQ Off-Road supports route guidance for 4WD vehicles and motorcycles on over 13,000 kilometres of the country’s unpaved tracks.
NAVTEQ understands the importance of incorporating country specific nuances into its maps and, with its usual attention to local detail, listens to consumer demand when deciding where to develop NAVTEQ Off-Road coverage. The new map includes popular, well used, off-road routes in and around 37 cities including Riyadh, Qaseem, Al Jouf, Hail, Makkah and Jeddah. There is also coverage in neighbouring Oman and United Arab Emirates focusing around key centres such as Khasab, Wadi Bih, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The product also features a range of Points of Interest to help local and visiting drivers find locations such as campsites, tourist attractions and historical or natural landmarks on their desert excursions. “As desert tracks are an integral part of travel in the region, it was important to seamlessly link the off-road trails to the urban road network. NAVTEQ Off-Road can enable navigation devices to guide drivers easily to their destinations using a combination of both paved and unpaved routes,” explained Dirk Nel, NAVTEQ director product management MEAR.
NAVTEQ Off-Road is available in a range of formats and can be used in conjunction with features such as Land Use Polygons and Enhanced Elevation Contours for enhanced visual guidance.
