Tampa, FL, United States, 2006/11/02 - Audio Visual Innovations (AVI), the industry leader in providing state-of-the-art audiovisual presentation, communication and collaborative solutions, today announced the Tech Academy©, a technical training and career path program for AVI employees.
The company is the first integrator in the industry to develop a formal training program to award continuing education credits from InfoComm International, the foremost international industry trade and accrediting organization. Due to the rapid expansion and organic growth of AVI and changing technology over the past several years, the company has been challenged with their growth outpacing the availability of highly trained AV technicians in the labor market. Tech Academy© was created by AVI to provide a continuous flow of highly trained and knowledgeable employees versatile in multiple audiovisual technologies in the industry. Prior to the creation of AVI Tech Academy©, continuing education credits for level II technicians could only be earned through InfoComm or third party training from vendors. Training employees in-house enables AVI to ensure standards and procedures are consistent throughout all divisions within the company.
“We invest a significant amount of the company’s resources back into the employees, their training, and their future in the industry because they are our most important asset and critical ingredient for the company’s competitive edge,” said Jim Colquhoun, CTS-I, Vice President of Technical Services. “Being recognized and awarded credits by InfoComm International is a big win for Tech Academy, and is a third party validation for the programs we are offering AVI employees.”
“Nothing is more important to the continued advancement of the audiovisual industry than quality education and training,” said Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., Executive Director, InfoComm International. “I commend AVI for its commitment to excellence and development of their impressive Tech Academy.”
Since the program’s inception in March of 2006, 50 employees have passed and have received continuing education credits through the AVI Tech Academy©. The program offers five continuing education levels associated with complexity and an increasing knowledge of technology in the audiovisual industry. Within each additional level of expertise and experience, employees are able to track and project their career path within the company, in addition to receiving compensation based on continuing education credits earned. Credits earned are applied toward the Renewal Units for the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), the industry’s regulated model of training, or credits earned may be used toward any level of InfoComm certification. To date, AVI has been awarded continuing education credits from InfoComm for the Tech Academy: Tech II program, and will continue to work with InfoComm to secure additional education credits for future Tech Academy programs.
Tech Academy© meets several times throughout the year training employees on the latest audiovisual technology, techniques and procedures. After a three and one-half day workshop employees are required to pass a formal comprehensive exam in order to ensure each topic has been mastered and for the employee to earn the renewal units. Internally, the Tech Academy© tracks all employee credits to determine goals achieved and benchmarks toward the employee’s professional development plan.
