PIKA Technologies Inc., a designer and manufacturer of telephony appliances, end-user applications and plug-in media-processing hardware and software building blocks, released today significant enhancements to their WARP Appliance development platform. These enhancements include a new software architecture, as well as updates to the appliance hardware. The new package will provide telephony developers, integrators and resellers with a simpler and more flexible solution for developing and deploying telephony applications based on the popular open source Asterisk platform.
Software enhancements include:
• New operating system (Debian);
• Single R/W file system partition;
• DAHDI channel driver;
• Updated versions of Asterisk (1.8) and FreePBX (2.9);
• New package management system and repository;
• More processor and memory available to customer application;
• Maintenance and diagnostic improvements.
Hardware enhancements include:
• Hardware-based (DSP) echo cancellation;
• Hardware-based (DSP) G.729;
• Internal USB;
• Real-time clock.

The new hardware (WARP version 2) and software (release 3.0) have been released and are currently available to developers and integrators from PIKA Technologies.
WARP Appliance for Asterisk replaces the traditional server/voice board method of deploying Asterisk-based systems. It is a purpose built appliance, rich in design and telephony features and very cost-effective for the SMB marketplace. In addition to the appliance itself, optional network connectivity telephony modules include FXO, FXS, BRI and GSM.
