Louise Braithwaite brings her expertise to the Commercial team as a Senior Lawyer, James Berman has joined the Commercial Litigation team and Claire Kowarsky is the firm’s new first year lawyer providing support firm-wide across the practice groups.
Louise Braithwaite has significant experience through her involvement in a multitude of matters including issues arising from marketing and advertising law and trade promotions, the vast range of general commercial matters affecting in-house teams, contract drafting, negotiation and advice and responding to regulators.
From her time as in-house counsel for two of Australia's best known retail organisations (Australia Post and Origin Energy) and as part of the corporate legal team of Victoria's largest government department, Louise has a solid understanding of and expertise in relation to the general commercial legal issues faced by in-house counsel as well as an ability to respond to a diverse range of specific issues.
Having gained exposure to in-house legal practice during his time at Siemens Australia, James Berman has attained dispute resolution experience across the entire spectrum of the Court hierarchies in Australia and New Zealand with a focus upon shareholder disputes, professional negligence claims and insolvency matters. James has also had direct involvement in a number of commercial mediations and arbitrations and has a strong focus on keeping clients out of court. In addition to his litigation practice, James has advised clients of all sizes on general commercial matters including contractual negotiations, capital raisings and licensing and regulation matters involving ASIC and the ACCC. James has recently bolstered his legal skill set with the completion of a Masters in Commercial Law at Monash University.
After starting with Kelly Hazell Quill as a Law Clerk in March 2011, Claire Kowarsky is the firm’s most recently admitted lawyer. In addition to her law degree (Honours), Claire holds a Bachelor of Business – Marketing (Dist) from RMIT and has previously worked in both client and agency roles including Marketing and Communications Manager, Events Manager and Account Manager. During her first year of post admission practice, Claire is enjoying gaining experience across a wide range of commercial law areas, commercial litigation and commercial property matters and using her marketing expertise to add further value to the firm.
