Bluebox Avionics, the leading provider of In Flight Entertainment (IFE) solutions based on the iPad, launched a ground-breaking In Flight Entertainment solution for Jetstar on November 8th 2011. Jetstar’s deployment of the Bluebox iPad2-based IFE solution includes early window movie content and is set to take Jetstar’s passenger satisfaction to the next level while generating significant ancillary revenue for the carrier.
Jetstar Group chief executive Bruce Buchanan said "Jetstar is proud to be the world's first airline to entertain its customers with cutting-edge iPad technology." “We’ve listened to our customers and know in-flight entertainment is an important part of their overall travel experience, so we’ve made sure the new iPads offer the very best viewing experience,” Mr Buchanan added.
The first flight to feature the technology flew out of Auckland on the morning of November 8th 2011 and Jetstar will initially roll-out 3,000 of the devices to its Asia network. The Bluebox IFE iPads will be available on flights longer than two hours and offer access to a range of TV shows, early window movies, games, music, e-magazines and e-books. Jetstar will provide Bluebox IFE iPads to business class passengers and offer them to economy passengers at a cost of $10-15 AUD.
Jetstar has taken advantage of Bluebox’s ability to provide tailored IFE solutions, including a custom case that extends battery life to more than 20 hours and full lifetime management services
Bluebox Joint Managing Director David Brown said “We’ve worked closely with Jetstar to develop and deploy this innovative IFE solution. We are also the only provider currently able to offer early window content on the iPad and are confident that the Bluebox iPad based solution puts Jetstar at the forefront of global IFE.” Brown continued “in Bluebox, Jetstar have found a partner who can meet their requirement to delight their passengers by offering them the latest technology and content.”
